Bookcases

Entering a bookstore or a library, looking at all those books stocked in bookcases, entices my wish to read, to plunge into the worlds these books can open up for me and brings all the stories already read in memory. Bookcases full of books are a colourful piece of art full of promises. At home they expose your books and enrich your interior.

Good news is that designers still love bookcases too. Over the years I saw many beautiful, big and small ones in magazines and in places I visited and I cannot stop looking out for them. Underneath I start sharing my passion for bookcases with you and give you websites for further information. Contact me íf you need any help.

Play Yet is really a discovery! It is so simple and 'playful'. The system offers endless combinations. Really something you can use in many interiors. To assemble your own bookcase becomes fun this way. Made by the company Smarin, I could not found who is the exact designer, they have four. The website is inspirational. And it is also produced in a sustainable manner from oak, beech and cork.

It is a cage with shelves, called CageB. Here you see a red version and a grey one. But I really like to see how it looks with books inside. That is the disadvantage of some of these stylish pictures. You really have to use your imagination. Nevertheless I like the airy design of Massimo Castagna and it is made by Henge.

This Cubit-system opens for you endless possibilities. The bright colours make you happy. It is a super modulair system. Very suitable for children especially if their parents let them choose their own colour. As well can you use this easily in attics or under stairs. Designed by Olaf Schroeder for Cubit.

Sipario L this bookcase is called and can be used also as a room divider. What you don't see very well is that some of the shelves are red. Also nice all the different heights between the shelves. Nice to combine with vases or other collections besides te books. Designer is Carlo Colombo and made by Emmemobili.

The name tells what it is: 606 Universal shelving system. Yes it is universal and has shelves, as many as you want. It is also a classic (already from 1960). You can start small, use it everywhere. The system grows with your bookcollection, you can change it according to your personal life, your house. Really convenient and it has this modernist look. Dieter Rams designed it and is made by Vitsoe.

This is the Ptolomeo bookcase in different variations. Love how it looks there in the corner near the window. It is a stand alone model and fits anywhere in your house. The company who makes them is Opinion Ciatti, designer is Bruno Rainaldi. Be aware you have many imitations. But the original is the best.

Simplicity and balance are the appropriate words for this bookcase Supergiu' of designer Marco Ferreri for the company Morelato. Unfortunately I have not found a picture of this bookcase full of books. I really would like to see this elegant bookcase packed with books.

Morelato is specialised in furniture in wood and has more 'librerie'/ bookcases in their collection.
